Artistic Director - Maura Matarese
Maura Matarese has been an active member of the greater Boston Theater community for over ten years as both an actor and producer. She was one of the original members of the Harrison Project which produced several local plays and the independent film “First” (which Ms. Matarese performed in) and was selected to play in film festivals in both the United States, and Canada. She has performed for the New Repertory Theater in Newton, The Boston Playwrights Theater in Boston, and has been seen in several regional productions, as well as commercials, voice – overs, and industrial training videos.
As a producer, she co- produced and performed in the critically acclaimed production of Five Women Wearing The Same Dress, and produced the original comedy show Table Tales. She spent seven years working in production for NESN (New England Sport’s Network) where she worked on the Emmy award winning sports magazine show Front Row. She also helped cast and performed in the Emmy award winning feature “The Legend of Elton Smalls”.
Recent theater credits include the original production of Occupied Territories; four short plays about the Middle East written by American Jewish and Palestinian playwrights performed at the Boston Playwrights Theater, and Howard Zinn’s The people speak where Ms. Matarese performed the roles of Emma Goldman and a 1980’s welfare mother.
Currently, Ms. Matarese and Wednesday Morning Productions has partnered with the North Charles Institute for the Addictions for a national Arts and Heath-care grant. WMP will film and document opiod addicted patients on methadone maintenance as they craft their personal stories for a narrative therapy group. Renowned playwright Rosanna Yamagiwa Alfaro will lead the narrative group. Expected release date for the film is fall 2006.
Ms. Matarese also holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University and works as a therapist at the North Charles Foundation where she treats opiod addicted patients.
